31CrMoV9 is a kind of nitriding steel, which contains minimum of 2.3% chromium, 0.15% molybdenum, and 0.1% vanadium as strengthening alloy elements. Its high wear resistance makes it mainly suitable for automobile industry and general mechanical engineering. The weld process of this kind of steel is challenging, therefore it is not recommended for welding structures. After nitriding, the hardness can reach 800HV. In addition, 31CrMoV9 is related to the nitrided steel 30CrMoV9 (DIN 1.7707).
