Professional 18CrMo4 Alloy Steel Supplier

18CrMo4 (1.7243) is an alloy structural steel with good process and welding properties. It has high enduring strength in the temperature range of 500 to 550°C. However, when the temperature exceeds 550°C, its oxidation resistance decreases, and its creep strength is significantly reduced. The thermal strength and strength of 18CrMo4 steel decrease during prolonged exposure to 500 to 550°C. This material is commonly used in the manufacture of high and medium-pressure steam conduits and header tanks at 510°C, as well as superheaters and forgings with wall temperatures of 550°C.

18CrMo4 steel shows slight imperfections after the rolling process, such as slight streaks or marks formed during the rolling process.
If 18CrMo4 steel is machined, such as turning, milling, grinding and other operations, its surface will become smoother and flatter. The precision and roughness of machining depend on the parameter settings of the machining process.
When 18CrMo4 undergoes heat treatment processes like quenching and tempering, the surface may experience microstructural changes that impact its condition. For instance, quenching increases surface hardness, which may be accompanied by some oxidation if the treatment isn’t conducted in a vacuum or protective atmosphere. Tempering, on the other hand, adjusts the surface’s hardness and relieves internal stresses, ensuring the required hardness while reducing the risk of cracking.
In order to prevent 18CrMo4 steel from rusting, anti-corrosion coatings such as paint coatings, galvanised coatings, etc. may be applied. Paint coating can provide a variety of colour options, while playing a role in isolating air and moisture, to protect the surface of the steel from corrosion; galvanized coating is through the electrochemical method in the steel surface to form a layer of zinc, zinc is more active than iron, in the corrosive environment will be corroded first, so as to protect the main body of the steel.
In certain applications where enhanced wear resistance is essential, coatings are applied to the surface of 18CrMo4. For instance, ceramic coatings, known for their high hardness and durability, can greatly improve the wear resistance of 18CrMo4 components, thereby extending their service life. This approach is particularly effective for parts like bearings and gears that experience significant friction.
